A fume hood is a special type of air ventilation system equipped with powful and energy-efficient fans and high-quality filtration media. The hood primarily functions to enact as a safety engineering control and provide protection from fumes, particulate and dust against personnel. Secondarily, these fume hoods are built to protect users from application hazards such as fires, chemical spills and adverse reactions. The principle is the same for both types: air is drawn fron the front (open) side of the cabinet, and either expelled outside the building or made safe through filtration and fed back into the room.
